Instructor Research

The automation portion of this course connects naturally to the instructor's research in automated software engineering, software quality, refactoring, testing, and intelligent analysis.

CodART

CodART — Source Code Automated Refactoring Toolkit
GitHub: https://github.com/m-zakeri/CodART

CodART can be used as a case study for topics such as:

  • automated source-level refactoring;
  • search-based refactoring;
  • multi-objective optimization;
  • quality-metric-driven transformation;
  • code-smell-informed refactoring;
  • testability prediction;
  • learning-based selection or sequencing of refactorings.

Suggested research connection

Students may use an instructor research artifact as:

  • a system to reproduce;
  • a baseline to compare against;
  • a source of benchmark/engineering challenges;
  • a case study in reproducibility and tool architecture.

The project should still define an independent research question and a fair evaluation protocol.
